Jeans for Genes Day

By All School News

On Friday 20th September, the school took part in Jeans for Genes Day. This annual event is easy to get involved in (just wear your favourite jean jacket) and raises vital funds for children affected by genetic disorders.

As part of the day, Thornycroft House organised a competition to design the best denim inspired outfit. Whilst the competition was tough a winner was chosen from every form, with each collecting a prize during Friday assembly.

Well done to our winners:

  • Reception – Archie
  • 1F – Ruby
  • 1H – Eloise
  • 2A – Constance
  • 2W – Dylan
  • Form 3 – Chloe
  • Form 4 – Maisie
  • Form 5 – Serena
  • Form 6 – Hannah
  • Overall school winner – Imaan (Form 4)

Form 6 host a Macmillan Bake Sale.

By All School News

Form 6 found their favourite recipes and got baking for the Macmillan Bake Sale on Friday 28th September. With plenty of cupcakes, biscuits and brownies on offer there was a bake to suit all tastes and the whole school got a chance to purchase a cake of their choice.

Soon nearly all the cakes had been bought and a fantastic £425 had been raised for Macmillan cancer care.

Congratulations and well done to Form 6, and thank you to everyone that got involved.

Value of the month – October

By All School News

Co-operation is our value of the month for October.

Co-operation means:

Listen carefully to others.
Share when you have something others would like to have.
Take turns when you are playing a game.
Compromise when there is a conflict.
Encourage people to do their best.
Make people feel needed. Working together is a lot more fun that way.

Form 3 visit to Alice Holt Forest School

By All School News

The girls in Form 3 had a fantastic day out at the Alice Holt Forest School. They found and held a slow-worm (legless lizard), collected silver birch bark ‘paper’ for tinder, learnt to identify and ate beech nuts and wood sorrel. The main highlights for most of the girls were probably building a den, learning to use a flint to light a fire over which they toasted marshmallows and walking Harry, the four-legged companion of our team leader, Nigel.

It all made for a great start to the year!
