Artist of the Month – January 2023

The Chiswick & Bedford Park Artist of the Month for January 2023 is Sol LeWitt (1928-2007).

The American artist is linked to a variety of the 20th Century’s artistic movements including minimalism and conceptual art, and his work has been exhibited across the globe including at the Tate St Ives.

The children will be learning more about his artistic style and colourful works of art, (which include paintings, photographs, sculptures and drawings), this month and attempt to emulate his famous style to create their own unique works of art.

We’ll be sharing their masterpieces on our Instagram and Twitter pages towards the end of the month!

 

Christmas Box Appeal 2022

This autumn we asked our school community to bring in a gift in aid of the FSCI 2022 Christmas Box Appeal – and we ended up with a hallway overflowing with generous donations this week!

The Yeats house captains would like to say a big thank you to everyone that took the time to make and wrap their wonderful shoebox gifts for the appeal. Your generous gifts are now with the Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion and will be adding some festive magic to Christmas Day for over 100 children.

Artist of the Month – Jean Metzinger

The CBPPS Artist of the Month for November 2022 is the French Neo-Impressionism painter Jean Metzinger. Born in 1883, Metzinger was interested in painting, mathematics, music and science and started working as a professional artist from the age of 20.

Metzinger painted a variety of landscapes and later became one of the founders of an art movement called Cubism. The children will be learning about the artist and emulating his bold brushstrokes and vivid colours to create their own masterpieces in Art this November.

Years 2 & 3 visit the Science Museum

On Thursday 3rd November, Years 2 & 3 enjoyed an exciting day out at the Science Museum in central London. Taking in the sights of west London as they travelled into town by train, the classes had a wonderful time exploring the various exhibitions and interactive zones that the museum has to offer before taking part in a workshop with a Science Museum Explorer.

Amazing Art in Year 1

This week Year 1 have been combining history with art, creating these amazing portraits of fireworks as they learn about Bonfire Night. Using colourful pastels, the children used their imaginations to design their brilliant and bright pictures of the night sky.

Mathematics this autumn in Reception

Welcome back for the second half of autumn term! This week Reception are learning about repeating patterns in maths, and the children are using colourful penguins and different size teddy bears in order to learn about, distinguish and create their own repeating patterns.

Prize-giving Assembly 2022

On Friday 8th July, the entire school came together for a prize-giving assembly to mark all the many accomplishments of the children through this academic year.

Winning cups, badges, competitions and trophies, it is our annual chance to highlight the many outstanding maths, musical and sport achievements of pupils in all year groups.

Well done to all our winners, our new house captains and congratulations to Shaw House for winning the House Cup for summer term!

The farmyard comes to CBPPS!

On Thursday 7th July, Reception and Nursery were filled with wonder when they discovered a playground petting zoo set up in the front playground!

The children hand-fed chickens and ducks, discovered that hedgehogs can swim and enjoyed giving a bunny a cuddle as they learnt more about these woodland creatures.

The CBPPS Summer Show!

On Thursday 30th June, Reception to Year 6 put on their dancing shoes and wowed parents and teachers with a fantastic performance of ‘Part of This World’, a play written for the children of CBPPS by the acclaimed author Nancy Tucker.

Filled with wonder and enchantment, each class took to the stage to perform a spectacular song and dance, before a grand finale that saw the entire school join Year 6 for a farewell song.

Well done to all the children for putting so much dedication and enthusiasm into learning your lines and routines, and thank you to all families that helped with costumes, hairstyles and face painting!

It really was an out of this world production!

Outdoor learning this summer term!

This June the sun has been shining and our classrooms have expanded to include the playground! We’ve had maths, computing, dance and more taking place in the sunshine outside. Year 1 have been estimating water volumes, gardening club have been weeding the flowerbeds and growing sunflowers, Year 4 measured the block around the school in metres (after estimating the distance) and Years 5 & 6 made the pagoda their classroom for computing.
